History of the Art Show
The idea of a Lucas Art Show began in early 2023 when a group of residents at the Lucas Lifestyle Estate began searching for a community event in the local area which could showcase the artistic talents of a number of the residents.
From this small beginning the Lucas Art Show was born, with the first event being held in September 2023.
The event is held in the Clubhouse situated in the Lucas Lifestyle Estate and attracts entries from across Ballarat and surrounding areas. This annual event provides an opportunity for both experienced and emerging artists to exhibit, and sell, their artwork. At the inaugural event in 2023 there were 120 entries, in 2024 there were 215 entries and last year there almost 300 entries. This annual event has rapidly become one of the premier art shows in Ballarat.

Our event provides artists of all abilities and ages the opportunity to display, and sell, their artwork. Last year we introduced a category specifically aimed at young (aged 18 and under) emerging artists to present their work. There were almost 80 entries into this new category, mainly from Lucas and neighbouring suburbs.
The fourth annual Lucas Art Show to be held over the weekend of 31 October and 1 November will feature similar opportunities for local artists and photographers. The event is free to the general public, as well as residents from other lifestyle villages and estates across the area which enables many locals and admirers of fine artwork to view the artistic talents of our local artists and photographers. It has rapidly become one of the most accessible and affordable art experiences available to Ballarat residents of all ages and backgrounds. This year's event is set to be one of the major art shows in Ballarat.

The art show provides significant benefits within Lucas Lifestyle Estate as well as many benefits to the wider Ballarat community.
The annual art show has become one of the most anticipated events on the Lucas Lifestyle Estate calendar.
It brings homeowners together in a shared and purposeful endeavour, fostering a strong sense of community participation and belonging. Homeowners who may not otherwise interact find common ground in supporting, attending and volunteering at the show, which creates meaningful connections and strengthens the social fabric of the estate.
In addition to attracting visitors to the Lucas area over the week end of the event the Lucas Art Show provides both artists and photographers with a genuine opportunity to exhibit and sell their work in a supportive and appreciative environment. This annual event has grown to become a genuinely significant annual arts event for the Ballarat region. Artists from all over Ballarat and surrounds are provided with a very affordable and accessible means to show and sell their work.
Many younger and emerging artists find it difficult to find suitable venues to display and sell their artworks as a the number of exhibition opportunities have declined over recent years. The Lucas Art Show offers those artists a safe, affordable and inclusive environment to exhibit their art works
The show is professionally curated and judged, with prizes awarded for excellence across a range of categories.
This rigour elevates it well beyond a community display — it is a credible competitive exhibition that attracts serious and emerging artists from across the Ballarat region and provides them with a valued platform to present their work to a broad public audience.
It also introduces visitors to art they might not otherwise encounter, supporting arts engagement across the wider community.

Our Art Show appeals to a wide range of artists across the region. There are only minor restrictions on the mediums used and on the subject matter enabling artists to express their own individual talents. The Art Show is well supported by the Ballarat Society of Artists whose members are regular exhibitors at our event. Last year we introduced a new category aimed at emerging artists aged under 18. This was hugely successful with over 80 entries, many of them students from the Sturt Street Gallery who have been wonderful supporters of the Art Show since 2023.
